BSLC (Basic Section Leader Course) has finally come to an end after 8weeks with insufficient sleep. graduate lo! im a corporal now. no more a private. posted to artillery. the unit where all the cool BIG guns are. these machines cant be fired live in singapore coz it will hit malaysia. lolx. so i guess there will be lots of overseas exercises to the following 2countires. new zealand. sounds like a nice place. but india.. hmm.. we shall see. kinda excited but heard that the cleaning of barrel is damn tedious and can get extra easily just because of the cleaning.
recently OC started this minor discussion on the topic of commissioned officer vs specialist (non-commissioned officers). both are commanders, but why is it that people always prefer to be officer than specialist? why is it that many people want to be either officer or rifleman, but not wanting to be specialist?
in my opinion, officers have higher pay, higher rank, higher prestige and better lives. what they do is just to plan while the specialists execute. dont you think specialists indirectly become slaves of the officers? somehow, specialists are being sandwiched in the middle. to a certain extent, i agree that both are of the same level working side by side coz both are efficient in their own fields. specialists are the ones that make things happen. they are the ones that reach out and interact with the riflemen. in a battle, they are the ones that lead the riflemen to fight and accomplish missions. but who will realise or believe that these 2kinds of commanders are levelled side by side if theres a difference in pay?
