in SG Forum, there is this heated argument on the topic of not allowing army boys to be on public transport.
I was bringing my children home from Downtown East last friday when a group of army boys boarded the bus with us. Gosh they were so smelly and disgusting that my kids started to make sick faces at me. Their sweaty body touch mine hands and my kids and I glared at them. SAF should really ban their soldiers from taking the bus. Can't they take taxis with their pay? What are our tax payer money for? Somemore they come from tekong dunno got any germs or virus with them. Later they spread to my children and worse to us. my point is this. ns boys are smelly dirty and full of virus. it pollute the common air we all breathe and it make my kids and me sick. my girl keep crying at night say that she dream of smeely green monster come and catch her away. you think lidat good for kid psychology meh. if i can i will just lock those ns boys at tekong. book out for wait. already ns shorten to 2 years. what can they learn? we don't need boy scout protect us. we need real men. so they least they can do for us is to take taxi. lidat can boost economy as well. (resource: http://www.sgforums.com/forums/10/topics/368533)well i guess both sides of the argument in this forum do make sense to a certain extant la. but this lady here shouldnt be so disrespectful to those who have served/are serving army. no matter what, we really went through alot just for the sake of our country. not like we are really very noble because the fact is we got no choice but to serve NS, but it is undeniable that there is this bit of honour, isnt it? the word 'boy scout' is very disappointing and damaging. why did she say so? it is through army that i learnt how to be initiative and lead effectively, making critical decisions that will affect the lives of the others, and of course appreciate many many things. all these are essential lifeskills that i will never be able to learn in a normal civilian life. arent this enough?
anyway, regarding her issue of stinky army guys, we do have an option of making ourselves smell good before booking out of camps. its just a matter of their choice,
except for recruits in tekong. being the 'lowest life-form' of all, they are supposed to book out in the green uniform. though they bathed, they have to do an area-cleaning, in which they will sweat. but having the toilet cleaned, nobody will wanna bath again. furthermore, during their area inspection, they will surely be punished like doing push-ups or whatever, whenever a bit dirt is found. again, they will sweat. finally, rushing to the jetty to catch the ferry, they have to march a distance. again, they will sweat. thats why, they become 'smelly green monsters'. haha.
what to do? take taxi? $400plus salary is not enough to take cab home for these
poor recruits whenever thay book out. really got no money. take PUBLIC transport? people will find you smelly and complain, ban you from taking the transport. so how? walk home lor, soldier! haha. hmm.. but i think maybe deodourant or a new set of uniform/ civilian clothings may just help.
