was watching an american game show 'the moment of truth' last nitex, when the female contestant admitted to committing adultery and that she believes she is meant to be married to an ex-boyfriend instead of her husband. the best thing is, all these was exploded right in the face of her husband. can you imagine how rotten the husband felt on the spot?
this a show where the contestant has to answer a series of 21 becoming progressively more personal in nature to receive cash prizes. prior to the show, a contestant is hooked up to a polygraph and asked more than 50 questions; there is no polygraph testing conducted during the actual show. without knowing the results of the polygraph, he or she is asked 21 of those same questions again on the programme, each becoming progressively more personal in nature, in the presence of their spouse and family members. if the contestant answers honestly, according to the polygraph results, he or she moves on to the next question; however, should a contestant lie in his or her answer (as determined by the polygraph) or simply refuse to answer a question after it has been asked, the game ends and ALL money is lost.
for each tier of questions answered correctly, the contestant wins the corresponding amount of money. a contestant may stop at any time before any question is asked and collect their earnings, but once they hear a question, they must answer it or lose the game. answering all 21 questions truthfully, as determined by the polygraph results, wins the jackpot of $500,000.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_The_Moment_of_Truth_episodesthis is the list of episodes, some revealing the aftermath of the relationships between the contestant and their spouse, family and friends. it seems like the darkest secrets of all are in relation to sex and unfaithfulness. seriously speaking, righteousness is a word that people nowadays should learn.
all these sparked off several questions in my mind. for happiness to last, must truth and falsity co-exist? i agree that somethings are better left unsaid than said. but is it really that way? if that is so, why some people have stronger relationships after being honest to one another? why is it that couples promise to be honest with one another? yet, no doubt that being true to one another will allow greater trust and understanding. but is it really that way too? there are so many cases of destroyed relationships after knowing the truth. why is it so? is it because people cant take the pain or the truth is too heavy to withstand? a second wave of problems rushed in after thrashing the first?
sometimes it is an irony that people wants to know the truth, yet they themselves cannot take it.
last but not least, if truth and falsity must co-exist for happiness to last, is it worth to reveal your darkest secrets for the sake of money?
